>Adversity is :
-When you are on your opponent’s home turf and a thousand fans have come to scream you into defeat-and no one is there for you…
-When the weather is so rotten that you can hardly stand up, let alone play…
-When you’ve been sick all week and never got any practice…
-When your opponents get all the breaks and you get none…
-When everyone has written you off because you just “don’t have what it takes”…
-When your personal life suddently falls apart and you’ve just gotten the biggest make or break performance of your life…
-When you’re injured and you’re not sure whether you can or you can’t…
(James E. Loehr)
Adversity is always there. It is your perception and response that makes or breaks you as a competitor. The inner contest is won or lost in that moment you choose to give in to adveristy and not see it for what it is…merely a challenge not an end all. Through adversity we confront our strengths, weaknesses and fears and we can overcome them. It is a choice. Turning adversity and pressures into challenges, opportunites and inspirations begins and ends in your head.
The next time you encounter the “impossible” craziness, clench your fists, get a determined smile on your face and, with all feeling and emotion you can muster, say to yourself-
I LOVE IT!
